THE WANTEDEthnic Kurd Wanted in Turkey for Terrorism, Arrested in Athens

Athens, Greece – Greek police have detained a 41-year-old Turkish citizen of ethnic Kurdish descent, wanted for alleged involvement in a terrorist organization. The arrest transpired when the individual visited the police’s aliens’ division in Athens to renew asylum request papers, triggering an INTERPOL Red Notice upon the officer’s database check.

Scheduled to appear before an Athens Appeals Court prosecutor on Tuesday, the individual faces allegations linked to a 2013 bombing of a government building in Tunceli. Turkish authorities claim identification through fingerprints and phone surveillance, implicating the individual in the incident.

The TKP/ML-TIKKO (Communist Party of Turkey/Marxist-Leninist – Liberation Army of the Workers and Peasants of Turkey) reportedly claimed responsibility for the bombing, in which the detained individual is believed to have played a role. Further legal proceedings will follow as Athens authorities collaborate with international agencies regarding extradition requests.
