Kit Harington, famed for his portrayal of Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has dashed hopes by confirming that plans for a spinoff featuring the beloved character have hit a snag.
During an interview with Screen Rant, the 37-year-old actor disclosed the unfortunate development, shedding light on the behind-the-scenes deliberations.
“I hadn’t really ever spoken about it because it was in development,” Kit confessed, unveiling the unforeseen setback.
“I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen.”
Explaining the decision further, Kit emphasized that the show’s fate remains uncertain as finding the right narrative proved to be a challenge.
“Currently, it’s off the table because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough,” he lamented. “So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being.”
The potential spinoff was anticipated to explore Jon Snow’s journey post-Game of Thrones finale, where he ventured beyond Westeros with the Wildlings and his loyal direwolf Ghost.
While Jon Snow’s standalone venture faces a hiatus, the Game of Thrones universe soldiers on, with House of the Dragon gearing up for its sophomore season in summer 2024 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight still in the pipeline.
For now, fans of the iconic series will have to content themselves with the existing lore, as Jon Snow’s spinoff remains shelved, awaiting a future resurrection – if the right story emerges.
