Jenna Ortega, known for her role in “Wednesday,” shared exciting details about the show’s second season during an interview on Variety’s Actors on Actors. Ortega revealed that the upcoming season will deviate from romance and instead emphasize the horror aspect of the series. Given the show’s playful nature and supernatural elements like vampires, werewolves, and superpowers, Ortega explained the importance of not taking itself too seriously.
The actress expressed her delight with the change, particularly the decision to eliminate any romantic love interest for her character, Wednesday. In the show’s first season, Wednesday was caught in a love triangle that Ortega felt didn’t align with her character’s journey. The sophomore season will allow Wednesday to explore different dimensions beyond romance.
In addition to her acting role, Ortega will take on a more hands-on role as a producer in the upcoming season. She described this opportunity as a “natural progression” and expressed her curiosity about the new outfits, characters, and scripts that will shape Wednesday’s story.
“We had already been throwing out so many ideas, and I’m somebody who’s very hands-on,” she said. “I want to know what’s going on. And with a character like Wednesday, who is so beloved and such a legend, I just really didn’t want to get her wrong. So I try to have as many conversations as possible. On set, with the writers and Tim [Burton], we all would get together and decide, ‘OK, what works and what doesn’t?’ It was naturally already very collaborative.”
“I want to see the outfits, new characters that are coming in, scripts, and they were gracious enough to let me put the producer hat on,” she added.
While an official premiere date for the second season of “Wednesday” has yet to be announced, fans can anticipate a shift towards horror and a fresh direction for the beloved character.
