Tech mogul Elon Musk is putting up a range of items from Twitter’s headquarters for auction following the company’s rebranding as X. The auction features 584 lots, including distinctive items like coffee tables, oversized bird cages, and oil paintings depicting viral images. The listings also comprise desks, chairs, musical instruments, a DJ booth, and more, offering a glimpse into the inner workings of the social media giant.
Musk, who acquired Twitter last year, has been implementing cost-cutting measures since his $44 billion purchase. Notably, thousands of jobs have been eliminated.
The auction, aptly titled “Twitter Rebranding: Online Auction Featuring Memorabilia, Art, Office Assets & More!”, includes an array of items. One intriguing lot is a Twitter sign that remains affixed to the San Francisco headquarters. The listing humorously notes that the sign comes complete with a mounted bird and that the buyer must arrange for proper removal.
The auction will also feature two oil paintings of iconic Twitter moments, one capturing Ellen Degeneres’ famous 2014 Oscars selfie and the other depicting the widely shared image tweeted by then-US President Barack Obama upon his re-election in 2012. Musical enthusiasts will find a variety of instruments and equipment up for grabs, including guitars, drum kits, amplifiers, and a fully equipped DJ booth.
Bidding for the lots will commence on September 12 and conclude two days later, with a minimum starting bid of $25 (£19.70) for each item. Elon Musk’s ongoing efforts to streamline X/Twitter and control expenses have resulted in a series of strategic moves, including these unique auctions that provide a rare opportunity for the public to own a piece of social media history.
