Two Austrian citizens who had gone missing during the recent devastating floods in Greece have been confirmed dead through DNA tests conducted on two recovered bodies. The announcement was made by the Austrian Foreign Ministry in a statement issued on Saturday. While the ministry did not disclose the names of the deceased, it expressed its condolences and conveyed the sad news.
The statement read, “It is our sad duty to announce the death of two Austrian citizens in Greece. The results of the DNA analyses confirmed that these are the two people who have been missing since the severe floods.”
The Austrian Embassy in Athens has been actively engaged in providing support and assistance to the grieving relatives of the deceased. However, the statement did not elaborate further on the details of the ongoing support efforts.
The harrowing discovery of the woman’s body occurred on September 8, when coast guard crews located her on Theotokos beach. Subsequently, on September 13, the body of the man was recovered from the sea near Mourtia beach. The two Austrian citizens had been staying in a vacation home in the coastal village of Potistika, which regrettably succumbed to the destructive floodwaters.
