A mass resignation has unfolded within the main opposition party SYRIZA. On Wednesday, members from the Human Rights Sector, including the Head Panos Lambrou and coordinator Vasiliki Katrivanou, alongside 88 others, announced their departure.
“The emblematic Rights Sector, which had a significant presence in the field of human rights in the last 12 years with hundreds of actions, solidarity campaigns, initiatives and announcements, effectively ceases to exist,” noted the resignation statement that was made public on Wednesday.
The resignation statement, released publicly, highlighted the dissolution of the emblematic Rights Sector, known for its impactful contributions to human rights over the past 12 years. It emphasized the divergence of SYRIZA from their vision, stating, “This party is no longer our home,” citing a perceived shift towards conservatism and right-leaning ideologies that no longer align with their values.
