Jason Oppenheim, star of the popular show Selling Sunset, has clarified his relationship status with his girlfriend Marie Lou Nurk after fans mistakenly thought they had tied the knot.
The couple, who have been dating for less than a year, shared a joint Instagram post featuring photos that led many to believe they had gotten married. However, Oppenheim, 45, confirmed on Friday that they had not exchanged vows, explaining that the images were from an event they attended a few months ago.
The photos showcased Nurk in a white feather-adorned mini dress and Oppenheim in a black suit and white shirt, taken by photographer Charlotte Lobry. The playful shots depicted the couple running and lounging by a lavish hotel pool, as well as posing in the front seat of a vintage car. Initially captioned, “Here’s to a lifetime of adventures,” the post triggered an outpouring of congratulations from followers, assuming it was an engagement or wedding announcement. The caption was swiftly changed to “You always make me smile” to rectify the misunderstanding.
Oppenheim clarified the situation in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, explaining the mix-up and the subsequent change in the caption. He also discussed the incident during an interview on Sirius XM’s Hits1. While receiving congratulatory messages, the broker emphasized that he and Nurk were not married.
The couple first met in July 2022 while vacationing in Mykonos, Greece. Their relationship became public when they were photographed kissing, and they later confirmed their romance by attending a movie premiere together in August. Since then, they have embarked on a globetrotting journey, traveling to various destinations such as Australia, Paris, and back to Mykonos. Nurk has also joined the cast of Selling Sunset for its sixth season. They currently share a stunning condo in Los Angeles.
Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship, with Nurk spending time between California and Paris for work, they remain committed to making it work. They prioritize communication and carve out time for each other despite the distance. Nurk expressed gratitude for Oppenheim’s support and understanding of her goals and passions, acknowledging that pursuing dreams sometimes involves risks and challenges.
