Cillian Murphy has expressed his openness to playing a Ken character in “Barbie 2,” affectionately nicknamed “Barbenhemier” by fans. The 47-year-old “Oppenheimer” star humorously mentioned that he’d be open to the role while speaking to Cinéfilos.
“Would I play a Ken in Barbie 2? Sure,” Murphy said with a laugh. “Let’s read the script and let’s have a conversation.”
Murphy also shared his excitement about the upcoming “Barbie” movie, directed by Greta Gerwig. He praised the film and the diverse range of great movies hitting theaters this summer.
“Can’t wait to see the movie. I think it’s great for cinema. You know, you’ve got all these great movies happening this summer,” the Peaky Blinders actor added.
The casting director for “Barbie,” Allison Jones, revealed that actors Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt were almost cast as Kens in the movie but couldn’t participate due to scheduling conflicts during the three-month filming in London. Similarly, Jonathan Groff missed out on the role of Allan, which eventually went to Michael Cera.
In the film, various actors portray different versions of Ken, including Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, John Cena, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. The success of “Barbie” at the box office has led to hints of a possible sequel, and Margot Robbie, who stars as Barbie, didn’t rule out a potential return to “Barbie Land.”
