CRITICAL SITUATION39-Year Old Herpetologist Bitten by a Viper in Thessaloniki Remains in Critical Condition

A herpetologist who was bitten by a viper on Friday evening is still in critical condition and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at the ‘Papanikolaou’ General Hospital in Thessaloniki. The 39-year-old expert had been called to a middle-high school to capture a snake that had been spotted by a teacher. However, soon after the bite, she experienced an anaphylactic shock, and the venom affected her central nervous system. As a result, paramedics had to intubate her while she was in the ambulance.

The situation remains serious as the herpetologist continues to receive medical care. The bite from the viper has posed significant health complications, and the medical team is working diligently to stabilize her condition. The precise details of her treatment and prognosis have not been disclosed.

Herpetologists are experts in the study and conservation of reptiles and amphibians. Given their extensive knowledge of these creatures, they are often called upon to handle and remove potentially dangerous species in various situations. However, encounters with venomous snakes like vipers can be risky, as demonstrated by this unfortunate incident.
