Rhodes, Greece – A 50-year-old Bulgarian national has been arrested on the Greek island of Rhodes on allegations of human trafficking and related offenses, including kidnapping and violations of immigration laws. The suspect is accused of forcing a 35-year-old woman, also of Bulgarian origin, into prostitution for six years.
According to reports, the suspect initially met the victim online and persuaded her to travel to Rhodes with promises of a better life. Upon her arrival on the Dodecanese island, he allegedly confiscated her travel documents and held her against her will, coercing her into engaging in sexual transactions for his financial gain. Additionally, he is alleged to have subjected the victim to physical and psychological abuse while controlling her communication with her family.
During a search of the suspect’s residence and vehicle, authorities seized 3,587 euros in cash and discovered six mobile phones. The suspect is set to appear before a Rhodes prosecutor on Monday.
