Greece’s Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, has announced a remarkable 52.8% surge in air passenger traffic during the first quarter of 2023.
The latest data from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) shows that a total of 6,877,069 foreign and domestic passengers passed through Greek airports from January to March.
This significant increase reflects a strong recovery compared to the same period in 2022, and a 2.9% rise when compared to the first quarter of 2019, signaling positive prospects for the ongoing tourist season. Minister Kikilias highlighted the contribution of new markets in driving higher revenue for the Greek economy.
The impressive growth in air passenger traffic indicates a resurgence in tourism and reflects the successful efforts made by Greece to attract visitors despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The country’s beautiful landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and renowned hospitality continue to attract tourists from various parts of the world.
The surge in air passenger traffic bodes well for Greece’s tourism industry, suggesting a promising recovery and the potential for a successful tourist season ahead. The increased revenue generated from tourism will contribute to the country’s economic growth and provide support for businesses and local communities that heavily rely on the tourism sector.
