STORM ELIASCentral Greece Braces for Second Major Storm, Elias

As central Greece braces for the impending arrival of Storm Elias, authorities are taking extensive precautions after the devastating impact of Storm Daniel earlier in September, which claimed 17 lives.

Over 600 firefighters, EMAK rescue teams, army units, and other state and local personnel are on high alert to respond swiftly to any emergencies. The army has deployed bulldozers and boats in readiness for potential evacuations or rescue operations, aiming to reduce response times significantly.

Residents in affected areas, such as Palama in Karditsa, have been actively preparing to safeguard their lives and property.

Municipal and regional authorities are actively clearing debris left by Storm Daniel and reinforcing riverbanks and streams to minimize flood risks.

Storm Elias, which made landfall on Monday, is anticipated to peak on Wednesday, with authorities closely monitoring its progress as central Greece faces yet another weather challenge.
