It seems Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t just a basketball superstar – he’s got some serious soccer skills too! The two-time NBA MVP and part-owner of Nashville SC, a Major League Soccer team, wowed the crowd recently with his soccer prowess.
Before his team’s Leagues Cup final against Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, Giannis decided to have a little fun on the field. He took shots on goal and surprised everyone by launching a long-distance shot that found the back of the net. And that’s not all – he celebrated the goal in true soccer superstar style, mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic celebration. The “Greek Soccer Freak,” known for his basketball dominance, showed he’s got game on the pitch as well.
Giannis, who became a minority owner of Nashville SC in March, channeled his inner Ronaldo by sprinting to the middle of the field, leaping into the air, and thrusting his arms out at his hips. He even repeated the celebration for good measure.
Interestingly, Giannis has soccer in his blood. His father, Charles, was a professional soccer player in Nigeria, so maybe the soccer talent runs in the family.
Nashville SC’s ownership includes a mix of celebrities and sports stars, including actress Reese Witherspoon, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, and Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg.
While Giannis is taking a break from basketball due to left knee surgery, he’s still keeping his competitive spirit alive on the soccer field. Who knows, we might see him make more appearances on the pitch in the future!
