New York, USA – Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a meeting in New York on Wednesday, reaffirming their commitment to fostering a positive atmosphere in Greek-Turkish relations. This face-to-face meeting marked an important milestone, as their last in-person encounter occurred in July in Vilnius, Lithuania during the NATO Summit.
During their discussions, which lasted for more than one hour, Mitsotakis and Erdogan endorsed a road map for future meetings, as determined by their foreign ministers. This road map outlines a series of three meetings, culminating in the Supreme Cooperation Council meeting scheduled for December 7 in Thessaloniki.
The leaders engaged in conversations on various regional and international topics, including the climate crisis and its impacts in the Mediterranean region. Both countries have recently faced severe natural disasters, emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation in Civil Protection.
Additionally, they agreed to collaborate on addressing migration challenges, recognizing them as shared concerns. The Foreign Ministers of Greece and Turkey will continue to cooperate and coordinate efforts to advance the agreed-upon road map, signaling a potential positive shift in the relations between the two neighboring countries.
