An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 20-year-old merchant navy cadet who fell ill during a training trip on a Greek-flagged tanker and was subsequently repatriated to Greece.
According to a statement from the Greek coast guard, the young woman began to feel unwell after the vessel she was on departed from Sikka in India. In response to her deteriorating health, she disembarked from the vessel in Suez with the intention of returning to Greece on September 2.
Upon her arrival in Greece, she was initially admitted to a private clinic in Athens and later transferred to a hospital. Unfortunately, despite medical care, she passed away on September 17. Local media on Kos have identified the young woman as Marianna Tsiga, a student of the Kalymnos Merchant Marine Academy.
The investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances leading to her illness, the nature of her medical condition, and the care she received during her journey and subsequent treatment in Greece.
