SYRIOUZLY GRATEFULSYRIZA Leader Alexis Tsipras Thanks Former US President Barack Obama for His Support During Greece’s Difficult Times

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras expressed his gratitude to former US president Barack Obama for his support during Greece’s difficult times. The two leaders met on Thursday to discuss political developments and reflect on Obama’s visit to Athens in 2016.

Tsipras acknowledged Obama’s timely observations during his previous visit, particularly regarding issues such as inequality, tax evasion by major corporations, and the importance of diplomatic resolutions to international disputes. He thanked Obama for standing by Greece during challenging periods and emphasized the significance of his support.

In their meeting, Tsipras and Obama also delved into the challenges faced by progressive political forces in the aftermath of economic and refugee crises. They addressed concerns surrounding the rise of far-right ideologies and the trend towards more conservative public opinion. A press release from SYRIZA highlighted these discussions.

Obama’s visit to Athens coincided with his participation in the SNF Nostos Conference 2023, held at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). This year’s conference focused on mental health. During his time in Athens, Obama also met with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the leader of New Democracy. Their meeting emphasized shared values and centered around the challenges confronted by their respective societies and youth.
