Paionia, Northern Greece – A devastating collision involving a tourist bus and two cars on a national road near the municipality of Paionia sent shockwaves through the region on Sunday morning. Tragically, three individuals lost their lives, and numerous others sustained injuries in the harrowing accident.
Giannis Artopoios, the spokesperson for the fire brigade, provided a grim account of the incident, stating, “We rescued three unconscious individuals from one of the two cars involved in the collision. A fourth person, heavily injured, was also extracted from the same vehicle, but sadly, they succumbed to their injuries later on Sunday. Additionally, two severely injured individuals were rescued from the second car. Inside the tourist bus, approximately 20 passengers suffered injuries.”
The tourist bus, carrying 78 passengers, primarily Serbian tourists en route to Asprovalta in the Thessaloniki region for a vacation, bore the brunt of the collision.
The bus driver, who miraculously survived the crash, recounted the horrifying sequence of events, saying, “The car with the four passengers was traveling in the opposite direction when it suddenly collided head-on with our bus. The impact forced our bus to reverse and ultimately veer into a roadside ditch. Regrettably, the car carrying the four passengers was mangled beyond recognition. The second car, occupied by a Serbian woman and her child, was unavoidably caught up in the tragic chain of events.”
The collision has prompted a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities are working to determine the factors that led to this devastating incident and whether any parties involved may bear responsibility.
