Rudy Youngblood, widely recognized for his role in Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto, is currently detained at Galatsi police station in Athens. The 42-year-old actor faces deportation after overstaying his visa, which expired at the end of November.
Youngblood had been in Greece since August for a film project but stayed beyond the permitted 90 days. According to a source close to the actor, he claimed his doctor advised against traveling due to ongoing health concerns. “I wasn’t trying to break the law,” Youngblood reportedly said. “I truly believed my medical condition warranted an extended stay until I could safely travel.”
The actor’s troubles escalated on December 27 when police conducted a routine check. Youngblood alleged that officers were not wearing identifiable insignias and failed to explain their actions, leaving him confused. “It all happened so fast,” Youngblood said in a statement. “I didn’t even realize they were law enforcement because of the language barrier.”
During the encounter, authorities charged Youngblood with resisting arrest, making threats, and carrying a weapon after discovering a pocketknife in his possession. The actor was swiftly brought to court without the usual three-day delay and received a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for three years.
After the trial, officials identified his expired visa, resulting in an administrative deportation order. Youngblood remains at the Galatsi police station and is expected to appeal his detention in the coming days.
