Yaccarino, the former head of advertising at NBCUniversal, will be responsible for overseeing the business operations of the struggling site. Musk, who will continue his involvement as executive chairman and chief technology officer, expressed his enthusiasm for working with Yaccarino to transform Twitter into “X, the everything app.”

Yaccarino’s appointment comes as a significant step towards increasing gender diversity at the top of major tech companies, where less than 9% of Fortune 500 tech firms have women CEOs. With a strong background in advertising and a track record of close collaborations with big brands, Yaccarino is expected to leverage her expertise to improve Twitter’s monetization strategies, which have suffered since Musk’s takeover.

Musk’s plans for Twitter involve reducing the platform’s reliance on advertising, making changes to content moderation, and expanding its functions to include payments, encrypted messaging, and phone calls. Since acquiring the company, Musk has implemented significant changes, including staff layoffs and alterations to the account authentication process, which raised concerns among advertisers and resulted in some halting their spending on the platform.

Yaccarino’s experience in television and advertising is expected to play a crucial role in the transformation of Twitter. It is speculated that the platform may evolve into more than just a micro-blogging platform, potentially becoming a video streaming platform. Yaccarino’s departure from NBCUniversal appeared unexpected, as the company had initially denied reports of her move to Twitter.

The appointment of Yaccarino reflects Musk’s ongoing efforts to reshape Twitter’s strategy and address the challenges faced by the platform. With Yaccarino’s leadership, Twitter aims to regain advertiser trust and develop new avenues for revenue generation.
