US rapper Kanye West, known as Ye, has had his Twitter account reinstated after an almost eight-month ban due to offensive tweets. The ban was a consequence of violating the platform’s rules against incitement to violence. The account, which now falls under Elon Musk’s rebranded version of Twitter, called X, has not seen any new posts since its return. The last tweet was made on 1 December 2022, just a day before the suspension.
Twitter had suspended Ye’s account previously, citing his violation of the incitement to violence rule. This action came after a series of offensive tweets, including one that featured a symbol combining a swastika and the Star of David. Prior to this, Ye had faced a similar ban for posting anti-Semitic messages in October, leading to both Twitter and Instagram removing his content.
Adidas also severed ties with the rapper due to his unacceptable behavior, stating a zero-tolerance policy towards hate speech and anti-Semitism.
This is not the first time Ye has faced consequences for his actions on social media platforms. In March of the previous year, he was suspended from Instagram for 24 hours after using a racial slur in reference to comedian Trevor Noah.
Both Elon Musk and X have not released any public statements concerning Ye’s account being reinstated on Saturday. Notably, Musk had previously reinstated former US President Donald Trump’s account after conducting a poll, which resulted in 51.8% voting in favor of the reinstatement. However, Trump expressed no interest in returning to the platform following his reinstatement.
