Love Is Blind’s Chelsea Griffin is switching things up and stepping into a fresh role that’s pretty darn exciting. It’s a revelation for the reality TV world as PEOPLE drops the exclusive news that this alum from season 4 will be donning a new hat – a member of Kinetic’s casting crew for the beloved Netflix show. Hold onto your couch cushions, because this is the first time a former cast member has made the leap to shaping the very team that brings new faces to the dating game.
Chelsea, now 31 and a pediatric speech-language pathologist, spilled the beans to PEOPLE about her motivation for this fascinating career move. She harked back to her own Love Is Blind application days, admitting she penned a “cringey as heck” sonnet in the process. Before becoming a part of LIB, she was just your regular Seattle singleton with a regular gig. Well, that was until the casting wizards unearthed her from the nooks and crannies of her city.
She gushed, “If it wasn’t for an awesome casting team and process, I don’t think I’d have landed on Love is Blind. I’ve always had this passion for helping people. After being on the show, I thought, ‘You know what? They were amazing and this show has incredible potential for success, if it’s cast right.’ So, I thought, ‘I want to be a part of that.'”
Chelsea, who found love with Kwame Appiah on the show, has a straightforward mission: being a beacon of positivity for potential contestants. Whether it’s answering their queries or just keeping their spirits high, she’s ready to be their go-to gal. She’s even contemplating writing “little love notes” to shower them with encouragement during the process. As she says, “There are times when you might not hear from someone or wonder, ‘Am I doing this right?’ My goal is to reassure people to stay focused and positive, and concentrate on their lives.”
But more than anything, Chelsea’s hyped to play matchmaker. She’s all about helping folks find their happily ever after. “That’s something I’m here for,” she reveals, “and I genuinely want people to have this chance. We’re looking for normal people, folks just living life who haven’t given up on love, who aren’t seeking fame or screen time. I’m truly hoping these people get their shot.”
She’s honest about the casting process, explaining that it involves thorough applications, psychological evaluations, and background checks. As she says, “People in this process are pretty well-vetted.”
Looking back at her own journey to becoming a LIB cast member, one thing sticks out – her hilarious video application. She went full Shakespearean, composing a cringe-worthy sonnet: “Roses are red, violets are blue, I’m ready to be a wife, so please help me find the love of my life.” And while it was cheesy, she admits, “I thought, ‘I don’t know what they’ll think, but I won’t overthink it.'”
Chelsea believes the personal touch matters, and she’s right. It worked out pretty well for her – the whole poetic spiel led her to her now-husband Kwame. They’ve been the embodiment of bliss since they tied the knot at the end of season 4. They even celebrated their first wedding anniversary in May.
In the spirit of true companionship, Chelsea’s hubby is thrilled for her new journey. She beams, “He’s such a supportive husband. He said, ‘Babe, go get ’em. You’ll rock this.’ So, he’s right here beside me, cheering me on.”
