BARBIE SPEAKSMargot Robbie Breaks Her Silence on Oscar Snub, Emphasizes on Impact of “Barbie”

In the wake of the 2023 Oscar nominations, Margot Robbie, the powerhouse behind the year’s top-grossing film, “Barbie,” has finally addressed the conspicuous absence of her name in the best actress category.

While “Barbie” amassed eight nominations, including prestigious ones like best picture, best supporting actor, and best supporting actress, fans were quick to express their disappointment at Robbie’s Oscar snub.

However, the Aussie actress, also a producer on the film, seemed unfazed during a recent SAG-AFTRA discussion with co-stars. In her words, “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.”

Robbie emphasized that the film’s primary mission was to “affect culture,” and that, to her, is the “biggest reward” stemming from its monumental success.

Expressing her discontent, Robbie pointed out her belief that director Greta Gerwig deserved recognition, stating, “Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director. What she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing.”

The blockbuster defied industry expectations, raking in an astonishing $1.38 billion globally, outperforming predictions that the Super Mario Bros Movie would claim the top spot in 2023.

Nominees for best supporting actor and actress from “Barbie,” Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, echoed their disappointment over the omission of Robbie and Gerwig.

“To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Gosling remarked, emphasizing the inseparable link between Ken and Barbie in the movie.

While “Barbie” secured nominations in multiple categories, including best original song, best costume, and best production design, Robbie concluded with pride, “We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact. And it’s already done that and some, way more than we ever dreamed it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”
