Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello have decided to go their separate ways after seven years of marriage. In a joint statement shared on Page Six, the couple wrote: “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
The news of their separation emerged shortly after Sofía Vergara was seen celebrating her 51st birthday in Italy with friends, noticeably without Joe Manganiello or her wedding ring. However, Manganiello, 46, paid tribute to his estranged wife on Instagram, posting a photo of the former couple celebrating one of Vergara’s previous birthdays with the caption, “¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!”
Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello tied the knot in November 2015 in Palm Beach, Florida. Last year, on their seventh anniversary, Vergara shared a series of throwback photos from their wedding day, including moments of their vows and reception, captioning the post with a simple “Love U” and a cascade of red heart emojis.
In a previous interview with PEOPLE in August 2020, Manganiello expressed his confidence in their relationship. At the time and ahead of their 5th anniversary, he said “I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me.”
“And we’re both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves. I was capable of putting her wishes ahead of mine, whatever they were, and she was capable of doing the same. Once you have that, you don’t let go of it,” he continued.
“My instincts about her were right,” the True Blood actor added at the time.
While their marriage has come to an end, fans will be eagerly awaiting their next moves.
