Amazon Original Series Gen V, a college-based spinoff of the hit show The Boys, is set to premiere this fall. The first three episodes will exclusively debut on Prime Video on September 29, with new episodes releasing weekly until the “epic” finale on November 3, according to a press release from Amazon Studios. The show will be available in 240 countries worldwide.
Gen V explores the world of the first generation of superheroes, who gained their powers through injections of Compound V rather than divine means. Set in a place called Compound V, the young super-powered adults compete for the top ranking in the school, testing both their physical and moral boundaries. As they grapple with the type of heroes they want to become, the university’s dark secrets will be exposed, leading to a thrilling and action-packed series.
The show features a talented cast, including Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, and Patrick Schwarzenegger. The first trailer, shown during the CCXP comic convention in Brazil, teased blood-soaked scenes and intense power sequences set in a college campus. The show promises love, relationships, action, and superheroes, offering a roller coaster ride for the audience.
Gen V also stars Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Marco Pigossi, with guest stars Clancy Brown and Jason Ritter. Fans of The Boys will also be delighted to see Jessie T. Usher, Colby Minifie, and P.J. Byrne reprising their roles in the spinoff.
“I’m so excited to be part of this show, and I’m so excited for you guys to watch it,” said Sinclair, 28, during announcement video for the show. “There’s love and beautiful relationships and tons of action and superheroes,” she added.
Broadway, 25, said “It’s gonna be a roller coaster. It’s gonna be filled with blood, guts, and everything else,” and Schwarzenegger, 29, added, “This will rock your socks off.”
The showrunner, Eric Kripke, shared that there will be crossover and connections between The Boys and Gen V, ensuring a cohesive universe. Some issues and storylines from The Boys’ third season will hand off to the first season of Gen V, and new storylines introduced in the spinoff will tie into the fourth season of The Boys.
As fans eagerly await the premiere of Gen V, they can enjoy the first three seasons of The Boys, currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
The Boys
“The Boys” is a critically acclaimed Amazon Prime TV series based on the comic book of the same name, created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Developed by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen, the show first premiered on July 26, 2019, and quickly gained a massive fan following.
Set in a world where superheroes, known as “Supes,” are revered and marketed by the powerful corporation Vought International, “The Boys” takes a dark and satirical look at the superhero genre. Behind their public personas, the Supes are revealed to be corrupt, selfish, and often reckless individuals abusing their powers for personal gain, causing harm to ordinary people.
The show’s central characters are “The Boys,” a group of vigilantes determined to expose the truth about the Supes and hold them accountable for their actions. Led by Billy Butcher, played by Karl Urban, the team includes Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). They are joined by Starlight (Erin Moriarty), a young superhero who becomes disillusioned with the corrupt system she has entered.
One of the most captivating and charismatic characters is Homelander, portrayed by Antony Starr, the leader of The Seven, Vought International’s premier superhero team. Homelander embodies the darker side of the Supes, using his superhuman abilities for nefarious purposes, and he becomes a formidable adversary for The Boys.
“The Boys” has been praised for its subversive storytelling, complex characters, and sharp social commentary. It delves into themes such as corporate greed, media manipulation, celebrity culture, and the consequences of unchecked power. The show’s mix of dark humor, intense action sequences, and thought-provoking narrative has resonated with both comic book fans and viewers new to the source material.
