Tom Cruise took his acceptance speech at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards to new heights.
The 60-year-old actor was awarded the best performance in a movie for his role in the blockbuster sequel “Top Gun: Maverick.” In a video clip, Cruise was shown inside a fighter plane high in the sky, wearing sunglasses and speaking into a headset, while his golden popcorn trophy accompanied him.
Expressing his gratitude, Cruise thanked the viewers for the fan-voted honor and dedicated his films to them. He expressed his love for entertaining and the joy he feels knowing how much the audience appreciates his work. Cruise also took the opportunity to promote his upcoming action film, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” promising a thrilling experience. He signed off by wishing everyone a wonderful summer and expressing his privilege in entertaining them, inviting them to join him at the movies.
“Top Gun: Maverick” had the most nominations for movies at the awards ceremony, while “Stranger Things” and “The Last of Us” led in the scripted television category. The show’s format had to be altered at the last minute due to the ongoing Hollywood writers strike, with pre-taped speeches from winners being featured. Host Drew Barrymore, who had initially agreed to host but withdrew in support of the strike, still appeared in pre-recorded sketches during the broadcast.
The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards were broadcasted on various networks, including MTV, BET, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and VH1, among others.
