Murray, who has been playing with a metal hip, had not won a match since his triumph in Antwerp, Belgium, in October 2019. His victory over world No. 17 Paul ensures his return to the top 50 in the rankings.

After an early exit at the ATP Tour event in Madrid, Murray had dominated his previous opponents in the Challenger tournament. However, the final proved to be a tougher test as Paul comfortably took the first set. Undeterred, Murray rallied and won the first five games of the second set, including two breaks of serve. He carried the momentum into the third set, breaking Paul’s serve in the opening game and securing his first Challenger event title in 18 years.

Murray said: “Hi everyone, just wanted to send you a message to say a big thank you for all your support.”

Following his victory, Murray will decide whether to participate in another warm-up event in Rome or rest before the French Open, which begins on May 22. The win marks a significant milestone in Murray’s comeback journey, showcasing his resilience and determination on the court despite the challenges he has faced due to injury.
