Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola may have had his heart broken again after his celebrity crush Julia Roberts was spotted with Manchester United team on their US tour.
Guardiola has had an “off-off romance” with Hollywood star Roberts, who happens to be one of his idols. In June, after City’s Treble-clinching Champions League victory, Roberts congratulated Guardiola on Instagram, leaving him elated.

However, she dashed his hopes once more when she was spotted at a Manchester United pre-season friendly match and even posed with Manchester United players including Bruno Fernandes (Manchesterd United captain), Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and several more, while also seen holding up a United shirt with her name on it alongside Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
United fans took to social media to tease Guardiola, joking that “Pep’s crying” and commenting on his possible feelings about the news of Roberts spotted at a Manchester United game.
“Someone needs to check up on Pep,” wrote one Manchester United fan.
“Pep won a treble and Julia Roberts still wants us,” Another United fan wrote.
“This is the only thing we have over City currently,” declared another.
The City manager had previously mentioned that Roberts is one of his top three idols, alongside Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Guardiola had expressed his disappointment when Roberts visited Manchester years ago but chose to visit Manchester United instead of City, who were performing better than their rivals at the time.
“I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Julia Roberts,” says Guardiola.
“Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex (Ferguson) was winning titles and titles and titles.
“She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?” he continued.
“And she went to visit Man United. She didn’t come to see us. That’s why even if I win the Champions League it will not compare for the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn’t come to see us,” he added.
Despite Guardiola being happily married, the playful banter from United fans continues, with some fans suggesting that Roberts still prefers United even after City’s achievements. It’s all in good fun, and while Guardiola might have had his heart “broken” in jest, the rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City remains alive and well.
