Norway’s Princess Martha Louise and her American partner, self-proclaimed shaman Durek Verrett, have made a royal announcement that’s raising more than a few eyebrows. The couple is all set to tie the knot next summer, and it seems like the Norwegian royal family is getting ready for an unconventional addition.
King Harald V expressed his happiness at welcoming Mr. Verrett into the royal family, despite the unconventional path the couple has taken. The princess had stepped away from her royal responsibilities last year to focus on her alternative medicine business, which she co-owns with her fiancé.
Mr. Verrett’s reputation has stirred some controversy due to his advocacy of unproven medical practices, including suggesting that cancer is a choice and selling medallions online that claim to ward off Covid-19. On the other hand, Princess Martha Louise has made headlines by claiming the ability to communicate with angels.
In the words of the Norwegian monarchs, “We are excited to have Durek Verrett join the family and we look forward to celebrating the big day with them. We wish Martha and Durek all the best.”
The Norwegian town of Geiranger, located on the shores of a UNESCO World Heritage Site fjord, will serve as the backdrop for their wedding. The couple expressed their joy at celebrating their love in such a historically rich and naturally stunning location.
Interestingly, Mr. Verrett will be moving to Norway and joining the royal family without an official title, according to reports from Norway’s state broadcaster NRK.
Despite the unconventional paths they’ve taken, Princess Martha Louise and Mr. Verrett are determined to embark on this new journey together. Mr. Verrett, who describes himself as a “6th Generation Shaman,” has had his share of controversy, claiming to have risen from the dead and predicting the 9/11 attacks years before they occurred.
Princess Martha Louise, on the other hand, has long been associated with alternative treatments and even founded a school focused on connecting with angels. While she acknowledges the importance of research-based knowledge, she believes that alternative medicine can complement conventional medical approaches.
The princess’s journey has been marked by ups and downs, including her previous marriage to author Ari Behn, which ended in divorce in 2017. Tragically, Mr. Behn passed away by suicide on Christmas Day 2019. Princess Martha Louise, as King Harald’s eldest child, continues to chart her unique course, while her younger brother, Crown Prince Haakon, will eventually ascend to the throne.
