Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly accepted a staggering world-record bid of €300 million from Saudi side Al-Hilal to sign Kylian Mbappe. The offer includes an astonishing weekly salary of €13.5 million. PSG is keen to sell Mbappe as he is in the final year of his contract and has already communicated his intention to reject a contract extension.
Al-Hilal’s bid surpasses PSG’s previous record signing of Neymar for €222 million and would result in a significant profit for the French champions, having initially acquired Mbappe for €180 million in 2018.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggests that Al-Hilal launched the bid to initiate talks with Mbappe, but no discussions have taken place yet. PSG believes Mbappe has agreed to join Real Madrid, and President Nasser Al Khelaifi has encouraged him to consider leaving the club this summer. The situation escalated when Mbappe and his entourage expressed willingness to sit out the season to leave on his own terms.
Amid the speculation, other clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and even Tottenham have been linked to the French superstar. Al Hilal’s acquisition of Mbappe would add him to a roster that includes players like Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
In the Saudi Pro League, substantial salaries for top players are not uncommon, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Alex Telles, and Marcelo Brozovic among those who have joined with lucrative contracts. Jordan Henderson is set to reunite with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq on a reported £700,000 per week salary. The competition for top players in the Saudi league showcases its increasing prominence in the global football market.
