A 43-year-old member of a Panathinaikos fan club, alleged to have been involved in the violent altercation outside the AEK Athens stadium on August 7 resulting in the tragic death of Michalis Katsouris, is scheduled to appear before an investigating magistrate following his arrest on Friday.
Authorities reportedly identified the individual through security camera footage, linking him to the group of Croatian and Greek hooligans responsible for attacking AEK fans near the OPAP Arena prior to the Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb.
The arrested individual maintains his innocence, asserting that he was not present in Athens during the incident. He claims to have been on the island of Kefalonia with his partner, backed by ferry tickets as evidence, which he intends to present during Tuesday’s proceedings.
In related developments, police have identified an additional 10 individuals from the security camera footage, mostly AEK fans, possibly leading to more arrest warrants. Among them is a man seen engaging in a confrontation with Katsouris. A total of 105 arrests have been made in connection with the deadly clash, primarily Croatian supporters of Dinamo Zagreb.
