Having already won the title, AEK recreated the glory of 1978 by defeating PAOK 2-0 in a thrilling Greek Cup final at the Panthessaliko Stadium. Despite being reduced to 10 men in the 6th minute due to Lazaros Rota’s red card, Matias Almeida’s team displayed remarkable resilience and clinched the victory.

Arold Mukudi (26′) and Paulo Fernandes (90’+1′) scored the goals that secured AEK’s double triumph after their Greek Championship win. PAOK, led by Razvan Lucescu, failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage and missed several opportunities, including a close call from Joan Sastre. Their defeat in the final shattered their hopes of participating in the Conference League qualifiers.

As the final whistle blew, AEK fans rushed onto the pitch to celebrate their 16th Cup victory in the club’s history. The triumph also ended PAOK’s streak of three consecutive wins against AEK. AEK Athens concluded their remarkable season at the OPAP Arena with the double secured.

During the press conference, Matias Almeida radiated joy and shared lighthearted moments following AEK’s 2-0 victory. The Argentinian coach, responsible for AEK Athens’ first double since 1978, expressed gratitude to his players and colleagues, reaffirming his commitment to the team while dismissing other job proposals. He concluded by stating his intention to revel in the celebrations, get some rest, and prepare for the upcoming season.

In contrast, a visibly disappointed Razvan Lucescu addressed the press conference after PAOK’s loss in the Greek Cup final. The PAOK coach acknowledged AEK’s superiority and fair victory, dismissed rumors of a potential move to Al Ain as mere jokes, and highlighted the team’s requirements for the upcoming season.
