Fury had proposed a mixed-rules bout, combining stand-up striking with smaller MMA gloves under boxing rules. However, McGregor, a UFC legend himself, remains skeptical due to Fury’s history of broken promises.

Expressing his doubts, McGregor stated, “Is Tyson willing to step in the f****g cage or what? He’s saying he would, Tyson says a lot of things. I love him, he’s a mad, mad thing Tyson. And I’m excited to see him go.” McGregor’s skepticism arises as Fury faces the possibility of forgoing a summer return fight due to limited available opponents. Earlier talks of a four-belt unification bout against Oleksandr Usyk collapsed, but boxing authorities in Saudi Arabia are aiming to revive the historic fight as part of a tournament-style series.

During a conversation with promoter Eddie Hearn at his pub in Dublin, McGregor inquired about the feasibility of the Saudi plan. Hearn acknowledged the significant financial incentives and revealed that three parties were interested, but the decision ultimately rests with Fury. McGregor, known for his charisma and star power, also humorously suggested that Hearn would have to settle for a co-promotion due to his own superstardom.

Although McGregor suffered a loss in his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather in 2017, he remains open to boxing challenges and even mentioned his interest in fighting Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez. However, he lightheartedly emphasized that his current status as a UFC icon would likely limit his involvement to co-promotion, highlighting his exceptional popularity in the world of mixed martial arts.
