WE ARE CLOSED, BEACHFamous Navagio Beach in Zakynthos Closed for Summer

Navagio Beach, renowned as the Shipwreck of Zakynthos, will be closed to the public throughout the summer season.

This decision has been officially announced through the publication of the Official Gazette, as a joint resolution by the Ministers of Citizen Protection, Maritime and Island Policy, Tourism, and Climate Crisis, as reported by ERT. In line with this decision, access to the Navagio Bay, whether by sea or land, will be strictly prohibited until the conclusion of October.

The closure of the Shipwreck was prompted by the suggestion put forth by Efthymis Lekkas, and subsequently endorsed by the four ministers involved. The primary factor driving this measure is the inherent danger posed by potential landslides in the area. In 2018, seven individuals sustained injuries due to such an incident, and a subsequent landslide occurred in September 2022 following a 5.4-magnitude earthquake that transpired between Kefalonia and Zakynthos.

Considering these safety concerns, it has been deemed imperative to prevent public access to Navagio Beach for the entirety of the summer period. By implementing this closure, the authorities aim to mitigate risks and prioritize the well-being of visitors.
