CyBC, the Cyprus broadcaster, has officially named 16-year old Silia Kapsis as their representative for the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö next May. Silia, a singer of Cypriot and Greek heritage, born in December of 2006 in Sydney, Australia, has already made her mark in the entertainment industry, serving as the lead singer for the Australian Youth Performing Arts Company (AYPAC) and performing at various high-profile events worldwide.
Beyond her impressive stage career, Silia’s passion for pop music led her to release her debut song, “Who Am I?,” in 2022, a song she had written and composed at the age of 12. She followed up with singles “No Boys Allowed” and “Disco Dancer” in March and May 2023, with another single expected before 2024.
Silia’s talent extends to dance as well, having worked with renowned choreographers and joined the ImmaBeast Dance Company in Los Angeles. She danced with Stephen tWitch Boss on The Jennifer Hudson Show and was featured in a dance documentary by Taboo from the Black-Eyed Peas.
In addition to her musical and dance achievements, Silia also took on acting, landing the lead role of Zoe in her debut short film, “Pearly Gates,” and participating in various television projects for Nickelodeon, where she became a regular host on Nick News.
With her extensive experience in the entertainment industry, Silia is well-prepared for the global stage of the Eurovision Song Contest. Details about her song for the competition will be revealed in the coming months.
Cyprus has a history of participating in Eurovision without securing a win, though their best placement was in 2018 when Eleni Foureira finished in second place with “Fuego.”
The Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place in Malmö, Sweden, with the First Semi-Final on Tuesday, 7 May, the Second Semi-Final on Thursday, 9 May, and the Grand Final on Saturday, 11 May 2024.
