Action star Dolph Lundgren and his personal trainer fiancée, Emma Krokdal, tied the knot in a heartwarming wedding ceremony on July 13 at their villa in Mykonos. The Rocky IV actor, 65, exchanged vows with the 27-year-old Norwegian beauty in an intimate celebration attended by close family and a few dear friends.
“We chose to celebrate our love by getting married at our villa in Mykonos with family and a few close friends. With both Covid and a long road of challenging medical treatments, we’ve had to push our marriage plans many times,” the couple revealed to PEOPLE.
Referring to having the wedding in the enchanting island of Mykonos, the could said: “We felt it was finally the right time to celebrate love, life and happiness— in the land of the Gods.”
Dolph Lundgren had proposed to Emma Krokdal in June 2020, sharing the joyous news on Instagram with a photo of his beaming bride-to-be displaying her engagement ring. The couple had initially met at a West Hollywood Equinox gym and struck up a fast friendship, which eventually blossomed into romance.
The wedding took place after a journey marked by adversity and triumph. Lundgren expressed his gratitude and admiration for his bride, describing her as an angel sent to help him through challenging times. Emma’s maturity and resilience, coupled with Lundgren’s youthful spirit, have made them an inseparable duo.
Throughout their relationship, they have been vocal about their love and admiration for each other on social media. Emma called Lundgren a real-life superhero both on and off-screen, while Lundgren praised her for being a source of strength during his private battle with cancer.
“I’ll say it again, real life super hero right here. On screen and off screen 👊🏻❤️,” Krokdal captioned a photo of the couple in May.
In 2015, doctors discovered a cancerous tumor in Lundgren’s kidney, and later, more tumors were found, including one in his liver. The outlook seemed grim, with doctors initially suggesting he had only two to three years to live. However, Lundgren sought a second opinion and found a physician who targeted a mutation common in lung cancer, which proved to be a life-changing decision. His tumors began to shrink significantly, and he underwent further treatment to remove the remaining scar tissue. Through this challenging journey, Lundgren says he has learned to “appreciate life a lot more.”
“You appreciate every day I can be with people I love,” he added. “You just appreciate, you know, having been lucky enough to be alive and appreciate every moment there is.”
