Jennifer Garner is set to reprise her role as Elektra, the superhero assassin, in the highly anticipated film Deadpool 3. The Hollywood Reporter and a trusted source confirmed Garner’s casting in the movie, which is currently being filmed in London and falls under the Disney and Marvel Cinematic Universe umbrella. The film features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and marks the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
While representatives for Disney and Garner have not yet responded to requests for confirmation, fans are thrilled to see Garner revisit her iconic character. The actress originally portrayed Elektra in the 2003 film Daredevil, opposite her former husband, Ben Affleck. She then starred in her own standalone Elektra film in 2005.
In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Garner expressed disappointment with her standalone Elektra movie, particularly when she observed the quality of subsequent Marvel films produced under Kevin Feige’s guidance.
“It’s such a shame, honestly, because once Kevin took over, everything there was elevated: the writing, the direction, the comedy inside of the stories they were telling. And I did not have that experience,” she said at the time.
However, with the upcoming Deadpool 3 directed by Shawn Levy, who previously collaborated with Garner and Reynolds on The Adam Project for Netflix, fans hope to see Elektra shine in a new light.
Garner, 51 also shared her challenging experiences while working on the Elektra films during a recent interview with Glamour. She revealed the difficulties of wearing the tight-fitting costume and the extensive martial arts training she underwent to master Elektra’s weapon of choice, the sai. Garner humorously recounted the struggles of using the bathroom while wearing the costume and the various tricks employed to enhance Elektra’s physical appearance.
“I had to be cut out of and sewn into the pleather pants every time I had to pee, and that was like a 45-minute undertaking. So I definitely held it in. And I had so many chicken-cutlet fake boobs in to make Elektra’s boobs; I think there were three on each side of different sizes. And everything was pushed up and out.”
“I was just this close to a wardrobe malfunction at all times,” she recounted. “There’s not enough tape in the world to make this stuff safe.”
Deadpool 3 is scheduled for release on May 3, 2024, and fans eagerly anticipate the return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra, expecting an electrifying performance in the hands of the talented cast and crew involved in this highly anticipated installment of the Deadpool franchise.
