Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are calling it quits—again. The superstar duo, famously dubbed “Bennifer,” are heading for splitsville just two years after tying the knot in a whirlwind Las Vegas wedding in 2022.
Lopez, 55, filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, according to court documents seen by the BBC. It seems this Hollywood romance, which rekindled nearly two decades after their first breakup, has run its course. The pair initially got together on the set of the 2003 flop Gigli—a movie that bombed, but sparked a love affair that had tabloids in a frenzy.
Back then, they were the hottest couple in Tinseltown, but their first engagement fizzled out in 2004, just before they were set to walk down the aisle. Fast forward to 2021, and Bennifer was back, proving that some sparks never really die. But despite the fairy-tale reunion, the honeymoon is officially over.
“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez had gushed after their low-key Vegas wedding. But patience, it seems, has its limits.
According to court filings, J.Lo didn’t list any prenuptial agreement details, which could mean there’s a lot more drama to unfold. The paperwork also reveals that both Lopez and Affleck, 52, will need to lay all their financial cards on the table—income, expenses, properties, and debts. The clock is ticking, with Lopez given 60 days to spill the financial tea, and Affleck to follow suit.
Speculation about their relationship has been swirling for months, especially after the couple put their Beverly Hills mansion on the market for a cool $65 million and were spotted out separately sans wedding rings.
This marks the end of the fourth marriage for Lopez, who was previously hitched to Cuban-born waiter Ojani Noa, dancer Cris Judd, and singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins. J.Lo also once got engaged to New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez. As for Affleck, this is his second divorce, having previously split from actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children.
Looks like this is one Hollywood sequel that didn’t live up to the hype.
